Hot take: your classic or dare I say oversized blazers are taking a back seat to the cinched blazer this year.
But let me clarify, that does not mean go donate all of your blazers and replace them all with a cinched blazer. That is how we get caught in the ugly cycle of keeping up with the trends.
What I mean is if you are investing in new jackets, add a cinched blazer. I will break down why a cinched blazer in a moment, but first, I want you to understand the power of shopping and diversifying how you shop.
These trend breakdowns and shopping suggestions are not meant to put you on a consumption train. Some trends aren’t for you and it’s empowering to know that and be able to say “that’s cool, not for me.” We don’t need it all.
The goal of these is to help you find potential gaps in your wardrobe and give you the tools to fill them. Now let’s define gaps… just because you don’t have an item doesn’t necessarily mean it is a gap. Instead look at how items are styled or how they could serve you, if you don’t have any item that checks those boxes and adding one would allow you to better wear or maximize other pieces you ALREADY own, then that is a gap we want to fill.
Let’s apply it to the cinched blazer.
The functionality: First and foremost the cinched blazer is the best item on the market right now that is a one and done look. Style it as a shirt, buttoned up, over literally any bottom and your outfit is effortless (takes 5 seconds to put on), but comes off so put together and intentional.
The style: Because of the rise of wider leg bottoms, the cinched blazer can be easier to style. It naturally cuts in at your waist which creates a flattering (read: sexy) silhouette. It pulls outfits together (literally & figuratively) together due to it’s structure and cut.
So do you get one? If you lack elevated items that you can just throw and walk out the door, then this could fill that gap. If you find yourself in lots of slip dresses, wide leg bottoms, or just wanting more structure in your outfits, this is a gap that your standard jackets can’t solve, but the cinched can. Now if you are not into structured items and thrive in the oversize style world, this one might not be for you.
Hopefully breaking down how to find gaps & when to shop helps you this season.
