Transitional dressing is often framed as the most confusing time of year. And for most women, it is. The temperature shifts, the stores are pushing fall, your closet still feels like summer, and suddenly nothing quite works the way it did a few weeks ago.
But in practice, this is the most advantageous season in your wardrobe.
It is the only time of year where your closet is fully in play. Your lightweight summer pieces still have relevance. Your fall staples start to re-enter. You have range, depth, and far more outfit combinations than any other season allows.
Most women default one of two ways: they either hold onto summer too long and look seasonally behind, or they switch too quickly into fall and feel heavy, overdone, and uncomfortable. The goal is not to choose one season. It is to learn how to hold both at once, intentionally.
When you understand how to manage what I call “seasonally competing variables,” transitional dressing becomes simple, repeatable, and incredibly elevated.
There are three to focus on: color, texture, and fabric weight.
