From Closet Chaos to Clarity: How My Style Has Evolved Alongside My Clients
What working with my clients has taught me about my own wardrobe.
If you told me years ago that becoming a stylist would completely transform the way I approach my own wardrobe, I would’ve believed you—but I don’t think I would’ve grasped just how much.
The truth is, when you spend your days helping other women find confidence, clarity, and cohesion in their personal style, you inevitably reflect on your own. My style today isn’t what it was five years ago—or even one year ago—and I’m proud of that. It’s a reflection of both my growth and the women I’ve had the privilege to work with.
The Early Years: “More Is More”
Before I started in this industry, I was obsessed with pieces. I chased the thrill of discovery—trying new trends, mixing bold silhouettes, and shopping for one-off moments. The reason? Because I thought every new item was the best thing since sliced bread, the thing that would solve my wardrobe frustrations… only to find out, it wasn’t. My closet was full, but often impractical. I had a personal style, maybe…but it lacked intention.
And to be honest, it lacked clarity. I confused creativity with inconsistency. I confused maximalism with meaning. And I spent most days staring at my closet thinking “I have nothing to wear.”
The Turning Point
All it took was one decision, determination, and whole lot of patience. I remember it vividly… I was getting ready for a friend’s 30th Birthday Dinner and had nothing to wear. Not only was I late to dinner (if you know me, you know I hate this) I left the house frustrated and insecure. I hid behind everyone in the photos, hating how I looked. That Sunday, when I was tagged in all the photos on Instagram, I thought to myself “I don’t want to live a life hiding.”
That inspired me to dive headfirst into the “style” deep-end. A world that my mother and sister lived in and I had despised. I studied everything I could and slowly revamped my wardrobe and reinvented my style.
During this period, I realized something important: personal style isn’t about having more—it’s about making better choices.
Fast forward, Becoming a Stylist Changed Everything
As I started working with clients and stepping into my role as a trusted advisor, I have continued to refine what “better choices” really means. Learning that simplicity doesn’t have to come at an expense.
I see how my clients lit up when they found a piece that truly fit their life, body, and energy. I see the transformations that come from finally being able to get dressed without second-guessing.
And I started to ask myself:
“Do I feel that clarity in my own wardrobe?”
“Am I dressing for the life I have—or the one I imagine?”
“Do my outfits support my goals, my energy, my reality?”
Those questions became my compass.
How My Style Has Evolved
Today, my style is more edited. More grounded. More useful. But it’s still me, maybe more me.
Here’s what’s shifted:
I shop less, but more strategically. I invest in pieces I wear often, not just ones I admire on the hanger.
I’ve stopped chasing trends. I might play with a trend if it aligns with my style words—but I never start there.
I prioritize functionality. Comfort, structure, and versatility guide my decisions. I need clothes that work as hard as I do.
I rewear pieces with pride. Consistency isn’t boring—it’s powerful. The most stylish people repeat. A lot.
I am not afraid to invest. Whether that be an inexpensive, but high quality piece. A statement piece that I know I can easily rewear. Colors, prints that spark joy.
What My Clients Have Taught Me
Every client I’ve styled has shown me something different about style—about confidence, identity, and the way clothing is about so much more than fabric.
I’ve learned that simplicity can be powerful. But that does not mean we need to follow checklists or even stick to neutrals.
That there’s no “right way” to dress—only a right-for-you way.
And that style is a muscle. The more you exercise it, the stronger it becomes.
My clients have reminded me to stay curious. To edit with intention. And to never stop refining.
If You’re In a Style Shift…
If you’re feeling like your wardrobe no longer reflects who you are—that’s not a bad thing. That’s growth. The key is learning to listen to that discomfort and redirect it into action.
Your style is allowed to evolve. In fact—it should.
And if you ever need help navigating the shift, I’m here. Because I’ve been there. And I know firsthand how good it feels to finally feel like yourself again.
