Hot take: Decorating my home felt exactly like dressing myself.
When I lived in my last place, I worked with an interior designer who nailed it. Every detail felt considered. It was the first space I didn’t constantly tweak or rearrange—and as someone who rearranges furniture for fun, that’s saying something. I never got sick of it. It felt timeless, inspiring, and truly “me.”
So when I moved, I panicked.
This new space had a completely different layout and scale. My old furniture didn’t fit the same way. The energy was different, and honestly—I was different too.
I was craving something bolder. A bit more daring. I wanted my home to reflect this new chapter in the same way a wardrobe does when your life shifts. I couldn’t bring my designer back into the mix, but I realized something…
I already had the skill set I needed.
Here’s how I approached styling my home using the same process I use with my wardrobe clients:
The Edit
Just like I do in a client’s closet, I started by assessing what I already owned. What still worked? What felt outdated or no longer fit the vibe? What could be revived, restyled, or repurposed in a new way?
Some things had to go. Some stayed. But most importantly, I got clear on what I actually needed to complete the space.
The Build
This is the behind-the-scenes work I do for every client—and I did it for myself. I gathered inspiration, made moodboards, sourced pieces, and thought about how I wanted the space to feel before I ever clicked “add to cart.”
The result? A more intentional space that reflected where I’m at right now—not just a Pinterest board come to life.

The Style
Once everything started arriving, the real fun began. I moved things around (a lot). I experimented with art in different rooms. I swapped pillows and played with color, shape, and texture until it felt cohesive.
Just like styling an outfit, it took a few tries—but I knew when it felt right.

What I Learned:
“Hanger appeal” is a myth—at home and in your closet. Half my favorite art came from my mom. Pieces I’d once written off as “too old lady” now look cool and unexpected mixed with modern ones. Styling is all in the mix.
Texture, color, structure, and shape are everything. Whether it’s an outfit or a room, these are the tools that make things feel dimensional and alive.
Patience pays off. The best pieces—whether it’s the perfect rug or the perfect pair of jeans—are often the ones you wait for. Style, in any form, is a layering process.
If you’ve ever felt overwhelmed trying to make your space or your wardrobe “perfect” all at once—don’t. Start with what you have. Add slowly. Let your taste evolve.
The principles are the same.
It’s all style. And it’s all personal.
